Our Film Transfer to Digital Video Process

First, we catalog and clean your film reels and get them in the correct order for transfer. If necessary, minor splicing and repairs are done to the film. Then we mount the reels on special Telecine 8mm/S8mm projectors. The lens of the projector is focused onto a collimating Lens which is also being focused onto by the professional 3-chip digital camera. This assures that the projector and the camera are focused properly onto the film surface.  Because the grains of film are viewable, you know we have the best resolution available.  There is no frosted lens or screens used in our process. Next the projector speed and the camera speed is synchronized to eliminate the roll bar or flutter associated with NTSC video at 30fps.  The camera is capturing a true "Frame by Frame" digital video which is viewable in the camera LCD viewer or inside a PC. From the digital camera, we go directly to digital tape.  If editing is desired, the digital information from the camera is sent directly to a PC by way of a firewire connection. Further encoding/rendering and bad spots can be removed and titles, if desired, can be added. 

Video input signals start from a digital, 3CCD chip camera, goes to the PC and returns to a digital recorder. If basic film transfer is desired, the film projector image goes directly to a  miniDV video tape.  There is no analog video signal involved at this point.  Remember, all analog tape (VHS) filming involves generation loss from start to finish.

Output of the finished Master tape can be to DVD, CD, digital miniDV tape or analog VHS, S-VHS, video 8MM or video HI-8MM tapes. Our basic transfer package includes a digital miniDV tape because this is a very high resolution tape  for home usage. Odds are that somewhere in your family a relative or friend will have a camera that can playback this signal.  This tape is the Master tape that should be guarded and held of future generations. Also, we recommend ordering a master VHS tape for everyday viewing and sharing. 

Our process gives you:

• Transfers start in digital format and stay in digital format.
• Solid frame by frame film transfer without flicker or roll
• A Frame by Frame result when viewed in a PC
• There is no hot spot on the film
• Color enrichment/enhancement is handled by the 3-chip camera
• No damage to old film.
• Digital master miniDV tapes for today and tomorrow. 
• Future copies from digital format will be same as original. No generation loss as with analog tapes.
